Sealy mattresses began their history in the bed industry in 1881. Believe it or not, the company gets it name from the town in which it began – Sealy, Texas. Sealy was started by a man called Daniel Haynes who was originally a cotton gin builder (a cotton gin is the tool that was used at that time to separate cotton from the seeds). Seeing how soft the cotton was, he filed a request for some cotton and made a mattress out of it as he thought it would be a very comfortable product to sleep on. The mattress was a success, so he made another one and sold it...then another one...and another one and this is how Sealy mattresses were born.

Continuing in his success over the next few years, Daniel continued to develop Sealy mattresses and his research and hard work led to more innovations and several patents for his products. 15 years later, he sold his patents to another company from Texas but they kept the Sealy name. A little later, an advertising agent wrote the slogan for the company 'Sleeping on a Sealy mattress is like sleeping on a cloud' and this was a catalyst for sales – from that point onwards Sealy mattresses became a huge name and everyone wanted one! By 1923 Sealy had grown so much that they now had 23 licensed plants all over the States!

Sealy mattresses even did well throughout the great depression. When everyone else was struggling, Sealy managed to stay afloat as well as still developing new products – this is when they introduced the button free innerspring. Sealy have always been at the forefront of innovation when it comes to the development of mattresses – they were even the first people to make and market the king size bed!

Sealy mattresses have also brought other innovations into the bed world such as reinventing the innerspring coil and the box spring and have patented many other technologies over the years including posture channels and pressure relief inlays that relieve pressure on the body when having a restless night.

Sealy mattresses have moved on considerably from the day when Daniel Haynes invented the cotton filled mattress and they now use materials that have been proven to have a positive effect on the human body health wise. These materials are mainly memory foam and latex foam that are generally incorporated into their mattresses by way of a layer of foam on top of their already amazing mattress units. Memory foam and latex foam help to relieve pressure on your joints whilst asleep by supporting them fully because of the material moulding to the shape of the body.

Sealy mattresses have always been one of the most well known names in the industry and day after day we receive many orders for them from our customers. The heritage and research of Sealy mattresses really can not be disputed and due to their hard work, dedication and top quality products, they are sure to remain at the top of their game for many years to come!
