Founded in the early 1960's, Gruppo Magni was started in Prato, Tuscany by Giuliano Magni. Giuliano began by making mattresses in his own home with a very small factory. As the business began to grow, Giuliano was able to take on bigger premises meaning that he could make more and more mattresses using newer technologies as time went by.

Today, Gruppo Magni - which Relaxsan is part of is Italy's largest mattress manufacturer. They produce a wide range of mattresses and accessories and ship their products to over 70 countries worldwide. Over the years, Giuliano struggled with the costs of transporting his large mattresses and was constantly trying to develop a way of making them smaller in order to cut down on transport costs. In the 1980's he started to vacuum pack his mattresses by compressing the air out of them and then rolling them in a bag making them 90% smaller. After this break through his business went from strength to strength and sales took a sharp up turn.

Gruppo Magni is now run by Giuliano and his three sons and houses a site that is 335,000 square feet over a space of 20 acres. They have 180 employees and now make upto 10,000 mattresses a day.
