Desks have been used in England since the 17th century when a need to make scribes more comfortable whilst working was recognised. The word 'desk' was originally spelt with an 'e' on the end and a desk actually comprised of a wooden box that had a sloping top for writing on. The lid of the box would normally open allowing the scribe to store his writing tools inside! It was only later in history that the desk evolved to include legs!
Desks are a great little addition to a bedroom in order to house the family computer/printer. If the desk is needed for a child's room they are fabulous for your little scholars to do their homework on! Should your children be a little too young for homework yet, a desk is an ideal platform for them to draw on or maybe do their jigsaws! Desks can also contain extra drawers that help in the fight to keep the home tidy as they are great for filing your paperwork in!
