Unlike cheaper look a like models, this ottoman divan base has the benefit of having a gas lift mechanism, similar to how your car boot works to raise the sleeping platform. Normally at this price level we would expect to see a hinged lifting mechanism, as this system is only normally used on more expensive divan bases.
The Healthopaedic Black Ottoman benefits from having a fully boarded base which opens from the side and has a specially made non slip top so that mattresses will not slide off the side. This high capacity ottoman divan is perfect for storing clothes, bedding and many other things without cluttering up your room. The base is upholstered in a black chenille fabric which provides practicality while achieving a a contemporary look.
Please note that the headboard is not included.

Please confirm if the Healthopaedic single size storage bed has a solid base on which to place clothes, linen etc in the storage base. I am aware that some merely have a fabric style base.

just would like to ask, what are the inside of the bases made from? are they quite strong and durable or are they made from chip board? this and also the other divan, the clayton base pls.
Asked by Jo on 15/09/2012 18:33Both bases are very strong boards but you could make them stronger yourself if required. NB; They are only designed for clothes or bedding, etc but we have never had one break yet as they are supported underneath also -
Is the Healthopaedic Ottoman Storage Bed just the base not the mattress included?(£399) I am not needing a mattress at the present time. If it does include the mattress, is it possible to buy just the base? Are there any mattress weight restrictions with this base?
Also if the waiting is around 3 to 4 weeks, how do you contact regards convenient delivery date/time?

Once the bed arrives into us as they are hand made to order we call you to arrange a suitable date for delivery. The delivery is normally a lot less than the 3 to 4 weeks quoted also. -

The compact Double is 120cm wide x 190cm long [ mattress size ] and the double is 135cm wide x 190cm long [ mattress size ] -

Just wanted to confirm that the single bed is side opening.
Other sites in verbage are saying their single bed are bottom opening so need to confirm the opening re this bed Asked by Karen McNulty on 15/03/2013 10:16Yes this bed is side opening in the single version as standard. It can be made as an end opening one on request. -

The bed comes with headboard attachments at both ends of the base, so it can be turned to open whichever way your require.

Ordered a double storage gas lift-up divan base. (Healthopaedic ottoman storage bed) Had to phone as wasnt too sure about some of the info on the net. customer service lady could not have been more helpful! Ordered item with trepidation, as not used company before and it was £400. should not have worried as all arrived as planned on day. delivery men were superb, carrying the two bits up to my bedroom, then even put it all together for me so i only needed to put mattress on! i did ask them nicely though, and they could see i had mobility problems (i am disabled) all packaging etc taken away too. what amazing service from beginning to end. i cant recommend this company enough! SUPERB SERVICE! The base is fantastically sturdy and very well made. it comes apart into two sections for ease, if you needed to move it. mine is covered in chenile fabric, which is really nicely done. having four gas lifts (two in each section) really helps too, and it is a dream to open and shut. the most perfect and well made bed base i have ever had the pleasure to own. only (slight) minus is it could have done with an A4 sheet of instructions as to what the 'bits' inside the base are for. took me a week to realise the two covered bits of wood left were for putting a headboard further away from the bed so the base could still lift up!! lol. women eh!
